Piazza della Consolata, Torino
In the center of the historic center, in the heart of the neighborhood called “Quadrilatero romano” (Roman quadrilateral), this splendid Baroque sanctuary stands (italian name: Santuario di Maria Consolatrice also named La Consolata), the design was entrusted to the very famous Guarino Guarini who between 1678 and 1704 built a large oval access hall and a hexagonal plan that will be the real sanctuary.
Filippo Juvarra between 1729 and 1740 designed the main altar, the one we still see today, and placed it in the niche created by the breakthrough towards the north of the Guarini hexagon.
